How I’m Dealing with Postpartum Skin

Ahh, the joys of hormonal changes during pregnancy and after baby! A couple of weeks into motherhood and I was welcomed with dry patchy bumpy skin and new zits every single day.

Everything that I was previously using no longer worked! Instead of investigating each product to eliminate what could be the problem, I decided to create a brand new skincare routine and see where it takes me.

Now that I’ve been testing and tweaking for the last four months, this collection of products is truly saving my skin, and, knock on wood, I haven’t seen a pimple in a couple of weeks!

Neutrogena Deep Clean Purifying Micellar Cleansing Water: I use micellar water religiously, and this one is no exception. In the morning it helps remove any excess oil or dirt that you may have encountered while sleeping. In the evening, it removes makeup… even waterproof mascara! I always feel refreshed after using micellar water, but my routine doesn’t stop here.

*Neutrogena also recently sent me the Cleansing Towelettes to try; it’s the same product but convenient when you’re traveling or in a rush and don’t have the usual amount of time to get through your routine.

Neutrogena Deep Clean Purifying Cooling Gel Scrub: I’d been noticing a lot of small bumps, called milia, around my eyes. From all the reading I did it seemed that the best way to gradually remove them was to exfoliate gently. I use this gel scrub twice a day to help specifically with this, and have noticed a huge difference! I’m not sure what caused milia, but since giving birth I’ve been extra careful about makeup that I use on a daily basis. Whenever I see it surfacing again, I go back to using this cleanser as often as I can.

This line is absolutely incredible. Besides the lemon-fresh scent and soft textures, each product has anti-aging properties that miraculously work to rejuvenate your skin.

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cleanser: I love this cleanser so much. I had used it a bit when I was pregnant, but didn’t give it much of a chance until more recently and now I’m almost finished! After the gel cleanser, I find that my skin gets dry quickly. I like to balance it with this soft cleansing serum. It is hydrating, super gentle and good for all skin types.

IT Cosmetics Confidence in a Cream: I use this as a daily moisturizer, usually in the evenings, because I do like to use something with SPF during the day.

IT Cosmetics Confidence in an Eye Cream: Along with gentle exfoliation daily, I have been strict about applying eye cream more often. It’s a step I used to skip and now probably can’t live without. Ever since incorporating this eye cream, I’ve noticed the skin around my eyes has gotten brighter and generally helps make me look more awake and alert.

PIXI Glow Tonic: I’ve had this in my cabinet for years! For some reason I use it for weeks straight, and then stop. I picked it up again when I was building this new routine, and I think this is the sole reason why my skin looks radiant even when it’s on the verge of breakouts! I gently pat it all over my face and neck with a cotton pad, and my skin immediately starts to look dewy and glowy. I don’t think I can remove this from my routine ever again!

Waking up with a daily surprise on my face meant that I needed to include something to prevent zits, or at least keep them tamed! Enter…

Derma-E Very Clear Acne Spot Treatment: You simply apply a little bit of this either on a pimple or where you think one may be coming up. This product works throughout the day/night to treat that specific spot. The next day the pimple usually either becomes smaller, leaves a minimal mark or is completely gone. Get yourselves a little tube of this; it is magic.

CeraVe Moisturizing Cream: Love it when a product is dual-purpose. You can actually use this lotion on your body AND face. I enjoy using it on my arms and legs; makes them extra smooth and silky! It doesn’t have anything to do with my postpartum routine, but I do love how hydrating it is, especially in the winter.

Indeed Squalane Facial Oil: I use this oil on very specific parts of my face — around the cracks of my nose to soften them up (helps with better makeup application), and dab some on any areas that may be more dry than usual. This is another product I’m almost done with but will definitely be purchasing again.

That’s it for my current skincare routine! It’s a bit tedious right now, and I’m sure things will either settle or change again soon, but I’m finally at a good place with my skin and hope it lasts.

Now, if anyone has tips to prevent hair loss… please share! At the rate my hair is falling out I might be bald by next week. ?
